Why I didn't want a dog: Reason #568

Because they bite.

They bite ears.

They bite the ears of little 6-year-old boys.  And they bite them so hard that it requires a trip to the emergency room and 10 stitches to put the ear back together again.

How many nurses out there would go out to the vending machine and buy her patient not only one package of Reese's PB cups, but TWO?!  Well, I know of at least one nurse who did.

I didn't want a dog.

I really didn't.

Oh, and I almost forgot.  It was Raegan and Haylie's birthday the same day.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my twins - born 4 years apart. :)
(At least their braces are kind of twin-ish.)
Raegan - 20, Haylie -16

Sorry, girls, that your special day had to take a back-seat to the dog/ear trauma.  Sheesh.

a gift of love

As I was climbing into bed last night, I found this thoughtful little gift on my nightstand....

lavender salts web round

Homemade Lavendar Bath Salt, lovingly made by my adorable and sweet 15-year-old daughter Haylie. Attached was a note of admiration and love, on which she had beautifully written....

Dear Mother,

I thought I could give these bath salts to you, and maybe you will use them (although you never take baths!). I love you so much.

(Awwwww, I know what you are thinking..."Maryanne has raised the sweetest and most perfect child On. This. Earth!")

(Or maybe you are thinking..."Maryanne never takes baths?? Eww!")

(But wait! Hold your thoughts! It goes on!)

Thou art like a cherry blossom, newly blooming and fluttering in the Spring breeze, hither to a white-stained gazebo.

Love, Haylie

I have no idea what you are thinking now, because I have no idea what to think myself.

Other than...."What was this child smoking last night?!" (At Young Women's nonetheless!)

dad's old glasses

Ever since I had a garage sale 2 weeks ago, I have been on a quest to purge and de-junk every. single. inch. of. my. house. Cleaning and organizing is a weird thing for me. It's like a drug. A good drug. I get this weird euphoria whenever I organize something. I imagine the feeling being something like druggies get when they smoke meth. Or whatever it is they do with meth.

(Meth probably isn't smoked, is it?)

(Oh wait! I just googled it...meth is indeed smoked!)

Anyhoo.

Last week, when I was purging my closet, I found John's old glasses. I think he wore these when we were dating/first married. Well, unbeknownst to me, the kids apparently got a hold of the glasses AND my camera, a discovery I made today when I got my camera out to take some pics. This is what I found on the card. . .

happy birthday....

"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, I'm so DEPRESSED that David Archuleta didn't win, happy birthday to you."

boo hoo, sniffle, sniffle :(

Yip, that was pretty much what we were singing last night at Raegan and Haylie's birthday/American Idol finale party last night. I'm still in denial. When Ryan Secrest said that the winner is "David.......COOK", I couldn't figure out what was happening. I thought, "David WHO? Who is Cook? Where did this 'Cook' name come from?!" I just couldn't wrap my brain around what he had just said. I cried. (Okay, I cried only on the inside - there were way, WAY too many people in the room for me to make a fool of myself by crying out loud. Come on! I'm a forty-year-old woman for goodness sake. Get a grip lady!)

The Davids, moments before the......(sigh)....announcement.

This was as Ryan Secrest was saying "David......." Look at the faces on these kids. The suspense was truly intense. They were all about to pass out, if I didn't pass out first.
Waiting. Waiting. Waiting...

The winner is announced. Pure and utter devastation!

Okay FINE! The night was not a total loss. We still had the birthday party portion to look forward to. It's a good thing we had the birthday to get our minds off of the previous "Archu-let-down".

Raegan and Haylie are so lucky! They share the same birthday, May 21st (actually lucky for mom - ONE cake, ONE party - yee haw!).

Haylie cutting the luscious homemade lemon-buttermilk cake!

Raegan and her new Anthropologie top. I think when Raegan blew out her birthday candles she wished for a million dollars so that she could go on a shopping spree at Anthroplogie - she's a bit obsessed with that place! (There's nothing wrong with dreaming, honey!)

HAPPY 17TH BIRTHDAY RAEGAN!!

HAPPY 13TH BIRTHDAY HAYLIE!!

(It just hit me - I have 3, THREE, teenagers now! Help?)

defying gravity

My sister-in-law Julie and I took our little girls, Haylie and Brinley, on a "surprise field trip" to Los Angeles and Hollywood. We told them we were going somewhere but wouldn't tell them where. Julie and I had secretly packed their bags the night before, then woke them up early in the morning. While driving to the airport, we asked them if they knew where we were going. Haylie said, "No, but I hope it's Lagoon!" (Lagoon is a local amusement park.) When we got to the airport we told them we were going to California to take them to the American Girl Store (where we spent over 6 hours!!), and to the musical Wicked. It was an absolute blast to say the least! We left on Friday morning and came back Saturday night.

At Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Just a few weeks before we were there, the actors from Harry Potter had done their hand and footprints (and wand prints too!).

Lunch at The American Girl Cafe.

Here Haylie and Brinley eagerly await outside the Pantages Theater in Hollywood ready to go in and be "changed". (You know, Elphaba and Glinda...."I have been changed". Only Wicked fans will understand...)
