Why I didn't want a dog: Reason #568

Because they bite.

They bite ears.

They bite the ears of little 6-year-old boys.  And they bite them so hard that it requires a trip to the emergency room and 10 stitches to put the ear back together again.

Ah, Phineas and Ferb to distract him....why didn't we think of that sooner?!

Now that's a little more calm.  Thank heavens for anesthetic, The Disney Channel, and a really great doctor.

How many nurses out there would go out to the vending machine and buy her patient not only one package of Reese's PB cups, but TWO?!  Well, I know of at least one nurse who did.

The finished product.  And surely a scar to last the rest of his life.  Dangit.

I didn't want a dog.

I really didn't.

Oh, and I almost forgot.  It was Raegan and Haylie's birthday the same day.
raegan and haylie birthday
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my twins - born 4 years apart. :)
(At least their braces are kind of twin-ish.)
Raegan - 20, Haylie -16

Sorry, girls, that your special day had to take a back-seat to the dog/ear trauma.  Sheesh.

my baby is T.W.E.N.T.Y.

How can it be?! I now have a child who is beyond her teens. Today Brooke is 20-years-old. Twenty. Do you hear me? TWENTY!!

I reminded her last night that when I was her age I had been married for almost a year and was only 3 months away from being pregnant with her! The reality of those facts, well, let's just say........ *whispers* it freaks her out.

Brooke is an amazing child, er, I mean woman! (Sigh...) She is so full of compassion. She is patient with her siblings (well, not necessarily with Raegan but that's a whole different story). She is a hard worker and as her dad describes her, "Brooke is a machine." She plays the flute and piano like nobody's business. Brooke is not afraid of adventure, and is doing a great job of seeing the world while she can. I also must mention that one of the best things about her is she doesn't even mind when people think that she and I (her mother) are sisters!! It happens ALL the time! *tee hee* You are such a good sport, Brooke :o)

And.......she ran a marathon. Can you get any better than that?! A mar-a-thon, people.

She has certainly picked the right profession to go into - elementary education. She will be the teacher that all the moms want their child to have! She is a natural - patient, loves children, and is pretty dang smart! (Did I get all of my quotation marks and periods and in the right places Brooke?) She just loves to correct me.

Birthday dinner of "Bang Bang Chicken and
Shrimp" (divine!) at The Cheesecake Factory.

(THANK YOU Cheesecake Factory people for finally responding to my many emails and phone calls and finally giving us a long-overdue, well-deserved Cheesecake Factory in the glorious state of Utah! I am sure that you are thinking....."We should have listened to that woman years ago!"  I know, I know, who would have known that a Cheesecake Factory in Utah would garnish a 4-hour-wait for its customers?! Yes, you should have listened to me years ago.)

The birthday cake made by dad.

(And no, we were not confused thinking that Brooke was actually 137-years-old. See, we are birthday-candle unprepared at our house on a regular basis but, being the creative people that we are, we can always come up with something. 13 + 7 = 20. It works, trust me.)

Happy birthday Brooke. We love you to pieces!

happy birthday....

"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, I'm so DEPRESSED that David Archuleta didn't win, happy birthday to you."

boo hoo, sniffle, sniffle :(

Yip, that was pretty much what we were singing last night at Raegan and Haylie's birthday/American Idol finale party last night. I'm still in denial. When Ryan Secrest said that the winner is "David.......COOK", I couldn't figure out what was happening. I thought, "David WHO? Who is Cook? Where did this 'Cook' name come from?!" I just couldn't wrap my brain around what he had just said. I cried. (Okay, I cried only on the inside - there were way, WAY too many people in the room for me to make a fool of myself by crying out loud. Come on! I'm a forty-year-old woman for goodness sake. Get a grip lady!)

The Davids, moments before the......(sigh)....announcement.

This was as Ryan Secrest was saying "David......." Look at the faces on these kids. The suspense was truly intense. They were all about to pass out, if I didn't pass out first.
Waiting. Waiting. Waiting...

The winner is announced. Pure and utter devastation!

Okay FINE! The night was not a total loss. We still had the birthday party portion to look forward to. It's a good thing we had the birthday to get our minds off of the previous "Archu-let-down".

Raegan and Haylie are so lucky! They share the same birthday, May 21st (actually lucky for mom - ONE cake, ONE party - yee haw!).

Haylie cutting the luscious homemade lemon-buttermilk cake!

Raegan and her new Anthropologie top. I think when Raegan blew out her birthday candles she wished for a million dollars so that she could go on a shopping spree at Anthroplogie - she's a bit obsessed with that place! (There's nothing wrong with dreaming, honey!)

HAPPY 17TH BIRTHDAY RAEGAN!!

HAPPY 13TH BIRTHDAY HAYLIE!!

(It just hit me - I have 3, THREE, teenagers now! Help?)

good-bye, my youth

This sums up what happened to me on Sunday......sigh.

(Sent to me by my good and sympathetic friend Lynette.)
