like mother, like daughter

To my darling daughter Raegan,

I PROMISE that next time you are going to a school dance I will NOT be sewing on your dress while your date is sitting upstairs waiting. I know, I know - he was waiting for a long time. A really long time! Yes, I do remember this exact same thing happened last year for the Sweethearts Dance. Next time I will have your dress done days, no, weeks in advance.
(I just figured that since I only had the sleeves to make and sew in it, well, that should only take a few minutes...shouldn't it? *sheepishly*)

And..... I didn't know there were other people waiting in the car! Yes, I can totally understand the "look" they gave us as we finally emerged from the house. And I am sure the following conversation took place....
"Oh finally! Here they come. What the crap took them so long to get out here?!
Oh no!! Great. There is Raegan's mom wielding her dang camera - now we have to wait again for her to take pictures. Hello Raegan's mother, do you think that we have nothing better to do tonight?!"

Yes Raegan, I remember telling you about how my mom would be desperately sewing on my high school dance dresses while my dates would be waiting downstairs in the living room. I would stand next to her at the sewing machine freaking out and completely panicked! I knew I would never let that happen when I, Maryanne, was sewing on my daughter's dance dresses.

Well, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, does it?! Sigh.
(Note to my mom...sorry mom for ever getting upset or frustrated or mad at you for not finishing my dress before my date got there to pick me up. That was just soooo wrong of me. I KNOW that you were doing your absolute best and with all you had to do as a mother, it was absolutely amazing that you were still willing to make me a dress!)

Sorry Raegan. Sorry Alec. Sorry people waiting in the car. I'll do better next time. I promise. No, I pinky-promise.

That is such a funny story, Maryanne. I could totally see doing that too. My neighbor gave me this little plaque once that says, "If it weren't for the last minute, nothing would ever get done!"

The dress--and the girl--and the date--all look fabulous. Way to go, Raegan! Hopefully she wasn't scarred for life. Nice work, Maryanne. I'm still glad you persisted with pictures. Moms have to be nervy at the most inconvenient times for photos. They complain about it, but they're happy inside when they have the photos to remember the fun times. Not that I would know by my mother ever taking a picture of me in high school. I don't think she even had a camera. Let's see, who is scarred for life now? Not me! I just take a lot of pictures instead.

It was well worth the wait and Raegan looks fabulous! When my Mom made my Sr. Prom dress she made the sleeves so big (they were like an enlarged cap sleeve) that I looked like a fairy with wings. Raegan is so lucky to have you for a MOM...with good taste!

Great story. Raegan is lucky to have a mom who goes the extra mile! She looks fabulous and I love the pictures showcasing your flowers as they walk down the path.

Yeah, I can think of a few incidents like that with my mom. One time...this kid picked me up in his dad's new BMW and when I sat down on the nice buttery leather seats I felt a PIN stick RIGHT INTO my leg. Yeah, I sat there. Worrying that I was bleeding on this lovely car. Dealt with the pin when I got to the restaurant. Still makes me laugh.

And honestly, that dress? Killer. I LOVE IT! Nice job. I cannot sew to save my life, so I wish in my case the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

That dress is so CUTE do you want to make me a dress? Holy cow I love it! Reagan looks hot, proof you can be modest and good lookin all at once! I miss dressing up for dances, but not the actually dances...too dark, too loud, too not my type of environment! When are you coming to visit provo?

Note to people reading my blog: Sorry to disappoint everyone but contrary to popular belief, I did NOT make Raegan's dress. I only made the sleeves for it. Although I'm pretty certain I could have made the entire dress if I had wanted to. (*tee hee*)

Yes Afton, you are SO RIGHT about modesty and looking good . Modest dresses are THE BOMB!!
