daddy-daughter date
"Piece of cake," was Brooke's reply when I asked her how her 13.1 mile run went this morning.
Today she and John ran the Salt Lake City half-marathon together. One year ago this week Brooke ran her first marathon. Apparently, once you've run a marathon everything else is just.....cake.
Oh! I know exactly what she means! I once ran 3 miles (yes, all at once!), and the next time I only ran one mile and it was just SO. MUCH. EASIER!
Whatev.
(So John just read this post of mine...."You didn't say anything about me blowing Brooke away at the end of the race!" he proudly protested. He confindently reminded me that he is 45 and she is 20 and he left her in the dust. Yes, he beat her by a whopping 26 seconds! Woooo. However, I should mention that Brooke finished in the top 10% for her age group! Not bad. Not bad at all.)

I like your approach to running much better than Brooke's or my parents'. They may be healthier, but I think we're smarter!
Whatever to MKM...
Look at their smiles of satisfaction and glory! You can't get that from a one mile run, sista!
Allow me to kindly remind Kris that the first person to ever run a marathon promptly DIED. Self-flagellation, even when it's really difficult, socially acceptable, and done in large groups, is still self-flagellation. Besides, who says one can't have a sense of satisfaction after a mile jog?
As much as I dislike running in general, I have an awed respect for those who can do it. A humongous high-five goes to both John and Brooke for accomplishing even that "easy" task.
wow that's amazing! does brooke run every day to stay in shape for these runs or can she just do it willy nilly? I'm going to start running again this summer, I'm committing myself to it! congrats guys!
Way to go guys!! And John, you still had enough in you to teach another great lesson today at church...I would have never guessed that you ran the half yesterday (perfect day for running, don't you think?!).
p.s. What were their times? Only a running junkie would want to know!
That last part that John had you report cracked me up. Way to go to both of your running superstars. I'm in awe.
Way to go father and daughter! That is truly awesome!
And Maryanne, your analogy is more my speed, or rather more my DISTANCE!
So, for a short moment I thought YOU actually won the half marathon! A lady named Maryanne Schauerhamer from Provo was the winner. I couldn't remember your last name other than it was long and different. I like you the same either way!
Maybe your husband and daughter came close to passing me on the uphill stretch at mile 12. I got passed by oodles of people! I thought I was going to die. That is great that your husband and daughter run together. I've NEVER ran a race without my dad. Funny, but he usually stays with me until the last 1/2 mile and then he takes off...just to say he can still beat me. So this race his hamstring starting bothering him at mile 6, so he told me to run ahead without him. I beat him for the first time ever (by 15 minutes). Tell John what goes around comes around. He'll start getting old around the time your daughter hits her running prime!
Leah's hilarious. Don't let her fool you...she's a running machine. I've looked at her back for many a mile. And it really is so cool that they can run together! If I can run races with my kids, I know I'll feel pretty darn good about it! (even if they're 1 milers!)
LOL. No that wasn't me in the picture, but I'll take getting mixed up with your daughter as a compliment! If you could zoom in on the picture you would definitely see some wrinkles and sun spots that I'm sure your 20 year old daughter does not have. Tell her to wear sunscreen, would ya?
What a great view from her apartment. Do you think she'll come back to the states?? I'd want to stay! Loved the old photos.
