defying gravity

My sister-in-law Julie and I took our little girls, Haylie and Brinley, on a "surprise field trip" to Los Angeles and Hollywood. We told them we were going somewhere but wouldn't tell them where. Julie and I had secretly packed their bags the night before, then woke them up early in the morning. While driving to the airport, we asked them if they knew where we were going. Haylie said, "No, but I hope it's Lagoon!" (Lagoon is a local amusement park.) When we got to the airport we told them we were going to California to take them to the American Girl Store (where we spent over 6 hours!!), and to the musical Wicked. It was an absolute blast to say the least! We left on Friday morning and came back Saturday night.

At Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Just a few weeks before we were there, the actors from Harry Potter had done their hand and footprints (and wand prints too!).

Lunch at The American Girl Cafe.

Here Haylie and Brinley eagerly await outside the Pantages Theater in Hollywood ready to go in and be "changed". (You know, Elphaba and Glinda...."I have been changed". Only Wicked fans will understand...)

Hi Maryanne....this will seem strange as you don't even know me....but I'm Lynette's younger sister. I was on her blog and linked to you....you know how it goes. Anyway, I'm just avoiding doing the laundry. :o) Just want to say...how GREAT that you took your daughter to Wicked and the American Girl store. What a dream! My five-year-old is already counting the days till she's eight. That's when dad's taking her to Wicked.

And also...you and your husband look WAY too young to have a daughter in college. Wow. Best wishes.

Thanks Nicole for posting on my blog. You are the first!! I haven't let anyone know of my site yet as I am still trying to get it ready, but I guess since I've commented on Lynette's there would be a link to me :)
Our little (well, big!) field trip was so much fun. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat! I can't believe how much we were able to pack into 1 1/2 days. Even driving in LA traffic having no idea where I was going - that's a whole story in itself! Scary!!

That is one of the coolest adventures I've ever heard of. What a dream come true. I've been to the AG store in downtown Chicago numerous times, and have bought a TON from there, but never once took Lindsey with me from Colorado or Texas, and I wish I had. What COOL moms you are!
